So I have heard some news

I am not sure if this is true, or not, or if it applies to our situation but I am guessing it will...

It will be required for BOTH adopting parents (if applicable) to appear in court to express their interest in adoption to the judge. I am not sure how paying x amount of dollars and jumping through all the hoops and waiting years does not show a commitment, a very real commitment to a very long and difficult journey but apparently it is not *quite* enough.

I will go. I will get my behind on a plane (oh I am shivering just thinking about it, no kidding!) and I will do anything it takes to get my little ones home. I will need to fly down with someone though as I will not fly down with Rob. One of my biggest fears with flying comes down to us both dying and then there are six orphans out there. I know that whoever is left in charge of our estate would likely *not* do anything to help our little ones in Haiti and that bothers me. Our children here in Canada...who knows?? where they would go. Not to my parents that is for darn sure. Never. That is out in a public domain now - in the case of my death I would never EVER want my parents to have custody of my children. Ugg.

So that is the only adoption news I have got for you today.

Some of the children I fostered came to be specifically as the people that were guardians didn't want them! Have you got any friends you could name as guardians in case of your death? I often worried about whether the people I was considering had enough money etc, but then actually with life insurance it all works out. I think you are very wise not to fly with Rob. I am a very positive and optimistic person but I too believe that couples should fly seperately just incase! I mean the Royal Family do it, so if it's good enough for them it is good enough for me ;0)

I'm really sorry you have another bump in the road! Is this for all families?

Mandy,

I was told by our agency that WE (families adopting from Marie) would NOT have to do this! Supposedly the reason is because she uses the courts in Les Cayes for the Parquet process and not the ones in PAP where this very insensitive judge rules!!! Like you mentioned we have ALL done SO, SO much to get our kids home to us, who in their right mind would put themselves through such an involved, stressful, and expensive process without wanting those children with every ounce of our being???

With that said, I still think it's a good idea to prepare ourselves for the possibility that this could become our reality, things in Haiti change with the wind, so I won't count on it with 100% certainty yet anyways!

Our agency also said that even the judge in PAP was excepting pictures taken with parents and children from previous trips as evidence that the families had met and a commitment had been made! Again, that's just what they said, I too still read how many families are being told they have to come when their O is using the PAP courts.

I would go with you though if we have to go!!!!

On the part about who would care for your children, we are SO feeling your pain, as we are in the same boat!!!!!!! At least I do have two legal adults now with my oldest being 18 & 19, they would both do a SUPERB job with our younger two if had be! Sad though that we can't count on family members, don't get me wrong we have some great people in our families just not people that even come close to sharing our vision or life's ideals with our children, especially one adopted from Haiti!!!!!
